Accommodations in a castle

All the castles built on 12th and 13th century, the living quarters of it invariably had one basic element. This is the hall. In the earliest castles the family slept at the extreme upper end of the hall. The sleeping quarters were separated by only a curtain or screen. Sometimes castles with ground-floor halls had their great chamber. In this great chamber the lord and lady slept. The lord and lady's chamber, when situated on an upper floor, was called the solar. By association, any private chamber, came to be called a solar. Its principal item of furniture was a great bed. Such beds could be dismantled and taken along on the frequent trips a great lord made to his castles and other manors.

Accommodation in a medieval castle

Accommodation in a castle is a great experience. Castle in build very simple, from stone, mortar and wood but in the same time is the most heavily fortified structures ever created. The castle is surrounding by stone palisade because the wood palisade proved too easy to burn.
In general is not easy to live in a medieval castle, is not the most confortable place. Medieval castles were built for safety, not comfort. Windows were little more than slits in the wall. Cold, stone floors and walls rarely kept in heat. Water had to be brought by the bucketful throughout the castle. Walls were built high to protect from advancing armies, and to provide needed lookout positions.

Cottage - type of accommodation

The cottage is a small house with a single story. Is like a small ranch with an attic chamber space above the first floor. A cottage is typically used as seasonal home for vacation, holiday for a little time of leisure. In the same time the cottage can be used as a second dwelling on a property. Cottages in general have a minimal foundation. Self-contained residence of individual style with own yard and carport.
